The 800,000-kilowatt offshore wind power project in Dafeng, Jiangsu Province

85.5 kilometers offshore! China’s deep-sea offshore wind power reaches a new peak! Recently, the Three Gorges Energy Jiangsu Dafeng 800 MW offshore wind project has successfully completed the installation of all wind turbines. As the farthest offshore wind farm among China’s currently grid-connected projects, this project marks a technological breakthrough that resonates with the “Dual Carbon” era—Far East Smart Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as “Far East,” stock code: 600869), through its subsidiary Far East Cable, serves as the critical “power artery” delivering green energy to this deep-sea engineering feat.
Deep-Sea Breakthrough Ushers in a New Era
This “green energy island,” located in the northeastern waters off Dafeng District, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, consists of four wind farms. Among them, the H8-1 wind farm’s central point is 80 kilometers offshore, with its farthest point reaching 85.5 kilometers—making it the farthest offshore grid-connected wind power project in China to date. The project features 98 wind turbine units and includes two 200 MW offshore substations and one 400 MW offshore substation. The first batch of units was successfully connected to the grid on July 4 this year.
An 85.5-kilometer offshore distance means construction crews require 6 to 7 hours for a one-way voyage, facing multiple challenges including open-ocean swells, extreme weather, and seabed sediment scouring. Despite these formidable obstacles, the project demonstrates outstanding demonstration value and ecological benefits—as one of Jiangsu Province’s first batch of levelized-cost offshore wind demonstration projects, it signifies that China’s offshore wind industry is entering a virtuous cycle of “technology-driven cost reduction,” laying the foundation for affordable electricity tariffs and serving as a vivid example of high-quality industrial development.
Once fully operational, the project will generate an average of 2.842 billion kWh of electricity annually—equivalent to saving approximately 860,000 tons of standard coal and reducing CO? emissions by about 2.37 million tons—significantly bolstering clean energy supply and effectively optimizing the regional energy mix.
Far East’s Torsion-Resistant Flexible Cables Provide Critical Support
As a core component of wind power generation systems, Far East Cable acts like the “blood vessels” of power transmission and played a vital role in this wind farm construction, supplying 66 kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables and harnesses specifically designed for 13.6 MW turbines.

The 66 kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cables and harnesses are tailor-made “tools” ensuring stable operation of large-capacity offshore turbines under harsh conditions. As early as 2019, Far East successfully developed Asia’s first 66 kV high-voltage torsion-resistant flexible cable for offshore wind turbines rated at 8 MW or higher. Today, Far East offers a full range of specialized torsion-resistant flexible cables for wind turbines—including 0.6/1 kV, 1.8/3 kV, 3.3/6 kV, 12/20 kV, 21/35 kV, 26/35 kV, and 36/66 kV—as well as aluminum alloy tower cables. These products feature low-temperature torsion resistance, low-temperature bending performance, moisture resistance, cold resistance, salt fog resistance, oil resistance, UV resistance, and lightweight design. They have been successfully deployed in numerous wind power projects, providing robust support for turbine operations. Far East’s “Wind Power Cables” have been awarded the title of “Manufacturing Single Champion Product” by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology—a distinction granted only to enterprises demonstrating significant leadership in scale, quality, industrial chain integration, and R&D capabilities.
Equipped with advanced intelligent control systems, Far East’s torsion-resistant flexible cables also enable remote monitoring and maintenance, substantially reducing deep-sea operation and maintenance costs. This lays a solid technical foundation for the industry’s evolution toward turbines with capacities of 18 MW and above and voltage levels of 110 kV and higher, showcasing Far East’s “hardcore” manufacturing strength in supporting China’s energy structure optimization and the construction of a new energy system.
In the future, with continuous technological breakthroughs and industrial upgrades, China’s deep-sea offshore wind sector will undoubtedly embrace even broader development prospects, contributing greater Chinese solutions to the global energy transition.
