As a key project for establishing national "West-to-East Power Transmission" follow-up energy bases and the construction of China's southwestern hydropower base, the Suwalong Hydropower Station is located at the border of Mangkang County in Chamdo City, Tibet, and Batang County in Sichuan Province, on the upper reaches of the Jinsha River.
